I am trying to find a cushion cut diamond. One that is more rounded on the edges. It needs to be close to 2 carats. I understand that coming in just below 2 can be less expensive and that would be fine. I’m not sure if I want the modified cushion or standard. Any recommendation there?
Also, the ring setting she wants is going to be rose gold. I’ve read that with rose gold you can get a diamond with a lower color rating since it will already pick up the color of the ring. Could I drop down to an “I” color and get the same value as H?
Any help would be appreciated!
I’d like to see a few options from different vendors please.
1st Round of Options: Ritani, Enchanted Diamonds and Zoara
I’m happy to help you!
Thank you for letting me know what you are looking for.
Here are a few options for you to consider:
2.01ct J VVS2 for $10,337.00: https://www.ritani.com/diamonds/cushion-diamond-2-01-Carat-J-color-GIA-certified/D-9Q071B
2.01ct I VS1 for $12,370.00: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/C201-1317Z2Z39
2.03ct I VS1 for $12,710.00: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/C203-6Z5418741
1.83ct E VS1 for $12,250.00: http://www.zoara.com/diamonds/p_cushion_excellent_cut_e_vs1#?p=7762202
The shape of the cushion tends to show more body color than other shapes. If you are planning on setting your cushion diamond in a rose gold setting, I would say that a ‘J’ or higher color grade is perfectly fine. You could go even lower but that is up to you. 😉
Let me know what you think and what questions you have. I look forward to hearing from you!
2nd Round of Options: Blue Nile and James Allen
Here are a couple of diamonds that you can compare:
1.84ct I VS2 for $11,127.00: https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD07791345
1.90ct I VS1 for $11,000.00: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.90-carat-i-color-vs1-clarity-sku-2376082
Let me know what you think and if you have any questions!
Final Round: Searching For The Perfect Blue Nile Cushion Cut Engagement Ring
I was thinking about the Blue Nile diamond LD08338594 comparing it to the one you just suggested from Blue Nile. Thoughts on that one? From the pictures it looks like the one you selected is more brilliant?
I prefer the 1.84ct I VS2: https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD07791345 because the contrast pattern is better. Overall, this diamond is cut better and offers greater white light brilliance and scintillation (sparkle).
The 1.90ct I VS1 has light leakage under the crown facet and doesn’t face up as white or bright as the 1.84ct.
Also, despite the fact that the 1.84ct is smaller in overall carat weight than the 1.90ct, consider the fact that the 1.84ct faces up larger than the 1.90ct. In other words, the 1.84ct measures 7.75×6.67mm and the 1.90ct measures 7.26×6.74mm. So the 1.84ct looks LARGER than the 1.90ct (this due to the superior cut).
I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you have any additional concerns!
Thanks Liz. As long as you like this diamond over the James Allen one you recommended then I will go with it tomorrow.
How do I make sure you get credit for the advice?
You are welcome William.
Yes, the 1.84ct I VS2 will be perfect for you!

Take care and I wish you all the best.
Everything worked out perfectly. She loves the ring and its sparkle. I had the diamond set by Diamonds Direct here in Dallas. They said I was brave to purchase the diamond online but that it was an excellent diamond. They claimed I got lucky! I think I just got lucky to avoid buying it from them and in turn save thousands.
That’s amazing – Congratulations!
Hahaha, you did get lucky if that means being smart and educating yourself in a top cut quality diamond. 😉 Good for you.
I’m so happy to hear that your fiance loves her Blue Nile cushion cut engagement ring.
Have a wonderful week!
