ODBA Reader Buys From Brian Gavin Diamonds with $6k Budget

Q:

I am so happy I stumbled upon your article! For a while I have been advising friends that the better the cut of a diamond, you can get away with lesser color, clarity, size, etc. I get so irritated when people go for size and get huge ugly diamonds. What a waste!

But what stuck me in your article is when you said that not all ideal cuts are created equal. I would like you recommendation as to what I should look for. I have a setting that can accomodate a 0.9oct – 1.10ct diamond and I have a budget of  around $6000. The side-stones in the ring are F/G color. What do you advise? What will give me the most sparkle for the dollar?

Thank you!

Hi Natasha,

I recommend this 1.01ct G SI2 for $6,550: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.018-g-si2-round-diamond-ags-104062318009

This is a BGD ‘Signature’ H&A precision cut diamond with gorgeous hearts and arrows optical symmetry. It is 1.018ct, G-color and SI2 clarity. The diamond is completely eye-clean (as can be seen with the magnified image – no inclusions visible at all) and it measures 6.47 x 6.51 which is perfect for your setting. I love the crisp arrow detail on this diamond. Since it is a G-color, it will match your pave side-stones perfectly.

What do you think? I know it is $6,555.00, but honestly you do get what you pay for with these super-ideal diamonds. They sparkle like crazy and this one just happens to fit all your requirements.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Liz,

I bought it! 🙂

It seemed like I would be paying at least $6k and that stone has everything I could possibly want. I made sure they knew you were my referral ;-). I’m very excited for the stone to come in and will let you know what I think about it once it is set. Thank you again so much!! I’m so happy that I found your site and I appreciate all your help! Definitely wouldn’t have been able to buy it without your help.
