Need Help Selecting A Brian Gavin Engagement Ring

Q:

Hi Liz,

I hope this finds you well.

Pave and Side Stone Cathedral Engagement Ring Brian Gavin Diamonds

Pave and side-stone cathedral engagement ring from Brian Gavin Diamonds.

I am looking for some help finding a diamond for a Brian Gavin engagement ring that I like. Here it is: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/pave-and-side-stones/cathedral-18k-white-gold-5439w18

I am looking at diamonds just below one carat, as close to colorless and flawless as is appropriate (ideally Brian Gavin signature). Here is an example of one I am looking at: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/0.918-g-vs1-round-diamond-ags-104064191009

My budget for the diamond is no more than $8,000.

I would greatly appreciate any advice that you can give.

Thanks for your help Liz!

Hi Dave,

That is a very nice setting you have chosen. As for the diamond, it is exceptionally clean (as you would expect with a VS1) and is just under the carat mark so offers considerable cost savings. I’d say a very nice choice overall.

I’ve taken a look at the other available diamonds in their current inventory and it looks like your stone is the best available for your given specs and budget. How soon were you thinking of purchasing?

One more thing, is there a reason you have chosen white gold? The platinum version of that ring is only $400 more and platinum on a whole is a much better metal choice to hold fine diamonds in engagement rings. Platinum is a pure metal, doesn’t need rhodium plating, and cushions diamonds better than white gold. I did write up a little comparison of the two if you wanted to read more about the difference between the two metals here: White gold vs. Platinum

Let me know if you have any questions in particular about anything… 🙂

Q:

Hi Liz,

Thanks for the great info and your time thus far!

I appreciate your tip on buying platinum rather than white gold. My timeline is flexible. I could wait another month or two….

Do you think waiting would be helpful?

Best,

Dave

Most Men Propose In Nov/Dec So It’s Best To Purchase Sooner Rather Than Later

A:

Hey Dave,

Well, that is a tough question to answer. Just to let you in on diamond buying cycles, many men look forward to proposing during Nov/Dec and thus start their diamond search right around now. Just keep in mind that it is a very busy time of year for diamond vendors and if you get in early, you get the best pick of diamonds. If you wait, it will become more difficult to be picky as there will be dwindling inventory that suits your specific requirements and budget. So, my advice is if you find something that you love then it’s probably best to purchase sooner rather than later.

Kind Regards,

Liz

Q:

Hey Liz,

Thanks for all of your help! The diamond I was looking at sold before I had a chance to purchase, so I’m still looking around, but the information on your website has been super helpful!

Best,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Here is a .904ct G VS1 that has just been uploaded onto BGD’s website: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/0.904-g-vs1-round-diamond-ags-c-104066039119

It is very similar to your original diamond, but with a slightly better cut. It’s currently at $7,053.00. What do you think?

Kind Regards,
