Buy Diamond Stud Earrings For Anniversary

Q:

Liz,

I am looking to buy diamond stud earrings for my wife for our anniversary. I’ve done a fair bit of of reading, have a fairly good idea of what I want in terms of specs, but could use your expertise to narrow things down to one or two matched pair recommendations. I am looking to spend as much as $6,500 and have been focusing in on rounds, 1.50 tcw, H-I color, no worse than SI1 clarity (eye clean) with the best possible cut. I have looked at a lot of sites, but really don’t know how to narrow things down to a select few choices, especially sight unseen in a number of cases. If you could give me your thoughts, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi David,

Thanks for letting me know what your budget is and your diamond preferences.

I would suggest starting your search with Brian Gavin Diamonds, as they have specific pages dedicated to already suitable ‘matched’ pairs of round, cushion and princess cut diamonds that would be acceptable in terms of size/color. Additionally, BGD specializes in super-ideal hearts and arrows cut diamonds and take their brand very seriously. These diamonds are considered the top 1% of all diamonds since their cut is so precise and they reflect light beautifully. They also have plenty of pictures/images and light performance information to make your ultimate decision a safe and sound one.

For example, here is a beautiful pair from Brian Gavin Diamonds: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond_pair_comparisions/compared_diamond_details/AGS-104070945022/AGS-104070945024

These diamonds are part of his ‘Signature’ hearts and arrows line, again representing the top 1% of all cut diamonds in the world with consideration to cut grade. These are both ‘I’ color but one is a VS2 and the other is a VS1. They both are eye-clean. This pair is almost identical in carat weight, so these would be another great option.

Please let me know what you think and if you have any questions!

Kind Regards,

Liz

Q:

Liz,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I like the specs, but feel I might be slightly overpaying for a higher clarity diamond (VS1) than I need for earrings. What do you think about another pair they have, .705ct and .707ct, VS2, I color? For the price, this seems like a little better value (albeit ever so slightly smaller)? Also, with regard to cut, are there any good values (maybe slightly larger tcw) at just below a cut above or signature cut categories? Especially for earrings? If I was buying a ring with a large center stone, I would not be thinking about anything else. For earrings with smaller stones, I am not 100% sure. If you could offer any additional insight, I would greatly appreciate it!

Best regards,

David

Hi David,

A diamond’s beauty comes from it’s ability to reflect light, otherwise measured as ‘brilliance’. This characteristic is what makes diamonds so highly revered and coveted around the world. No other gemstone can match this. It is because of this that I do not ever recommend compromising on cut. In my mind, there is no point in getting a slightly sub-par cut to get a larger carat weight. This is my personal opinion.

So, with that being said, I have found your .705ct and .707ct I VS2 matched pair for $5,922.00: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond_pair_comparisions/compared_diamond_details/AGS-104070945021/AGS-104070945023

A pair of beautifully matched diamonds. From left, a .705ct I VS2 and a .707ct I VS2 from Brian Gavin Diamonds.

I think that this is a beautiful pair of diamonds. They are both gorgeously cut with beautiful hearts and arrows optical symmetry and are both eye-clean. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending these.

Please let me know if you have any remaining questions. Also, if you wouldn’t mind, I would like to ask you to please click on any of my links when you are about to purchase the diamond. This way the vendor knows that I have referred you to them. This is how I am able to run my website full-time and offer complimentary diamond advice and guidance for free. I appreciate your help!

Kind Regards,

Liz
