Hearts and Arrows Round Brilliant In Halo Ring Settings

Q:

Hi Liz,

I’m looking to purchase a round, 1.50 carat diamond for an engagement ring. I’ve been looking at H colors, with a clarity of SI1 to VS1. I am looking at halo ring settings; with diamonds 1/2 to 3/4 around the band preferably in 18K White gold. Brian Gavin has some nice stones and settings. However, the price is quite a bit higher than similar stones on other sites (due to the cut).

In your opinion, is it worth the extra money? I’ve done significant research on James Allen, Blue Nile, etc, but thought I reach out for your opinion.

Thanks for your help,

Adam

Hello Adam,

Absolutely, Brian Gavin is worth the extra money. You get top notch super ideal diamonds that are eye-clean with superb optical symmetry. He is the only vendor with consistently perfect H&A diamonds.

For your specs, I found a 1.50 H SI1 for $14,184.00: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.503-h-si1-round-diamond-ags-104083536004

However, if that is too much, then a great alternative is this 1.50ct I VS2 for $12,880.00: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.502-i-vs2-round-diamond-495.00-104079526017

As for your ring setting, they have several square halo settings depending on your taste. Here are few of the many halo settings that BGD has to offer: Anita Halo, Sarah Halo, and Kirsty’s Halo

Kind Regards,

Liz

Thanks Liz,

1.51ct J VS2 Hearts and Arrows Round

I was also looking at this stone: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.518-j-vs2-round-diamond-167.00-104083681018

Do you see much of a difference between the J color and the I you recommended?

Thanks,

Adam

A:

Hi John,

Diamonds cut at this caliber will always face up white and bright. Color is most easily detected from the side or pavilion view. A ‘J’ colored diamond does not look yellow but has more ‘warmth’ to it when compared directly against another ‘colorless diamond’, for example, an F. However, as a standalone diamond in a ring setting, a ‘J’ colored diamond is perfectly fine and is a very popular choice.

The J that you have chosen is also exceptionally clean for a VS2 so that is an added bonus with it being also $2K cheaper. 😉

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Kind Regards,

Liz
