Looking For A 3 Carat Diamond Ring $40K

*Note: ODBA no longer recommends EnchantedDiamonds.com

Q:

Hi Liz,

I am looking to buy a loose round cut diamond for around $35,000 – $40,000. I want to go for the best cut and the biggest carat/diameter that I can afford, whilst appearing colourless and without inclusions to the naked eye of a non expert.

My girlfriend’s ring size is 16. I’d like to mount the diamond on a platinum ring together with two sapphires. Is there a maximum diameter I should be thinking about given the finger size and the addition of two sapphires?

Best regards,

Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for providing your budget and requirements.

If you wanted to maximize carat weight while not compromising on cut (brilliance/sparkle) I would suggest going for a H/I colored diamond. As long as the diamond is eye-clean, you can opt for an SI1 clarity grade which will get you a very nice size.

For example here is a gorgeous eye-clean 3.11ct I SI1 for $35K: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/Round/GIA-Certified-3,11-Carat-I-Color-SI1-Clarity-Diamond-38DYSL

3.11ct I SI1

This gorgeous 3.11ct I SI1 from EnchantedDiamonds.com is a perfect example of maximizing carat weight while not compromising on cut, color or clarity. This SI1 graded diamond has twinning wisps as its grade making inclusion, which are barely visible in the magnified HD video.

This diamond was recently graded by GIA this past September. It is a triple Excellent (excellent cut, polish and symmetry) and also falls within AGS ideal cut proportions. No blue fluorescence. The grade making inclusions are twinning wisps, which are often the best inclusions to have as they are very faint white/translucent lines that are barely visible even in the HD magnified video. These do not detract from light reflection or brilliance, so this diamond will face up white and sparkle beautifully. Overall, this diamond represents an excellent value.

In terms of ring diameter, there isn’t a maximum diameter, though for most rings they are usually between 2.0-3.0mm.

Finally regarding your request for sapphires, I know that Enchanted Diamonds has an in-house buyer that specializes in sapphires. It is one of the co-founder’s uncles.

Your ring sounds beautiful! Please let me know if you have any questions about the above recommendations, etc.

Kind Regards,

Liz
