Diamond Price, Diamond Images and AGS – Whiteflash.com Advantages

Q:

Hey Liz,

I am looking for an engagement ring with a max diamond price of around $5K but obviously the lower the diamond price and still obtaining great quality is priority.

I prefer anywhere between a .7 to .9 carat diamond. VS2+ clarity is preferred. I like solitaire 4 prong settings. I have found a few I am interested in so far, but am always searching for different/better options.

Below is my favorite choice so far but I am afraid of buying a “painted girdle” diamond and losing higher quality brilliance when seen from eye view.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated! ODBA has been a great reference for me in educating me about diamonds and love your diamond search tool!

Thanks,

Aaron

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for letting me know your diamond engagement ring budget and diamond specs.

I think your Blue Nile diamond selection is just fine. Do not be afraid of a painted girdle if it is graded by a reputable lab like AGS. In fact, most round brilliant diamonds exhibit some degree of painting on the girdle. There are various tolerances to painting/digging for both GIA and AGS, but painting that is done on a small scale can actually enhance a diamond’s brilliance.

Some ideal cuts utilize the painting/digging of girdles to enhance light reflection. In these cases, it is considered a “tweaked girdle”. The end result is almost no light leakage. Whiteflash is a popular retailer that uses the enhanced painting/digging of a diamond’s girdle to maximize overall brilliance of a diamond. Here is an interesting article posted on their website explaining in more detail: https://www.whiteflash.com/about-diamonds/diamond-education/visible-effects-of-painting-and.htm

That being said, I also like this diamond from Whiteflash for you: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2953076.htm

You can read my Whiteflash review and why I recommend them on ODBA. 😉

Feel free to let me know your thoughts as well as any additional questions.

Kind Regards,

Hey Liz,

Thanks so much for the quick response. I have decided to purchase the diamond you suggested with a solitaire 4 prong platinum setting from WhiteFlash. I made the decision on the following factors:

  1. slightly lower diamond price
  2. better visual photos of the diamond
  3. and WhiteFlash recommendation of AGS

I will let you know in the near future of the outcome and also some photos. I also listed your site as where I learned of WhiteFlash at purchase.

Thanks again,

Aaron
