Need A Diamond For My Tacori Engagement Ring

Q:

Hi Liz,

I’ve been looking at diamonds at Ritani and Enchanted–both of which I found through your awesome site (I’ll make sure you get the referral by clicking from your site when I’m ready to buy.)

I’m going to put a round diamond (1.8-2.1ct size) into this Tacori engagement ring in white gold… http://www.tacori.com/ht2547rd7

Petite Crescent Tacori

I’ve not been considering any diamonds without an ASET and/or Idealscope image. Cut proportions are my top criteria.

My question is what color grade would you advise that I set as my minimum? I’m considering H color as I’ve read that with a great cut, you won’t be able to tell the difference without another higher color right next to it.

Do you agree ? Finally, what’s your opinion of this diamond, and are there any others you would recommend also? https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/R202-F7Q8XH

Thanks!

-David

Hello David,

Thank you for contacting me and letting me know what you are looking for. Your Tacori ring looks beautiful. As you are getting a round brilliant to set in this ring, I’d recommend staying with I or higher in color grade. The tiny melee diamonds are probably G color so going up to two color grades difference is acceptable.

Your 2.02ct H SI1 is a great looking diamond: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/R202-F7Q8XH

As an SI1, the feather is not easily visible as it is just under a kite facet. It’s a beautiful stone with fantastic light performance and crisp and symmetrical optical symmetry. I would definitely recommend this diamond for you.

I did find this bigger 2.32ct I VS2 for $17,430.00: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/R232-U8JD2Z

This diamond also has great ideal proportions and faces up nice and white. The difference here is that it is one color grade lower but makes up for that with medium blue fluorescence. As a VS2, this diamond is also cleaner in clarity and is definitely eye-clean. It measures 8.47×8.43mm which is significantly larger than your 2.02ct. So, if you really wanted to maximize size this diamond will definitely offer you that.

Finally, I found this 2.02ct G SI1 for $19,690.00: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/R202-NLN6JE

It also has ideal cut proportions. Advantage here is that it has the highest color grade of the three and it’s SI1 clarity grade is eye-clean. The grade making inclusions are twinning wisps which are not visible in the HD magnified video or still image. Though there are no ASET or ideal-scope for this diamond, it’s proportions are perfect and through experience I can tell that it is a high performance diamond. Please ask ED for more information. Alternatively, if the diamond vendor doesn’t have these images available you can always call the diamond in and they can take an ASET image for your final review. I definitely think it is worth doing as this is such a fantastic find.

Please let me know if you have any questions and what you think of the suggestions/recommendations above.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind Regards,

Liz

Q:

Wow, Liz. This is fantastic! Thank you for the assistance. You gave me a lot to think about. When I’ve looked at diamonds in person my preference always goes towards the better colors, but they always had no fluorescence. I’m torn! I know my future wife would probably love the bigger diamond–and it’s significantly less money too. I’ll ask ED if I can get an ASET image of that one, which should help me make a final decision.

If it were your ring, which one would you want? : )

Thanks so much,

-David

Hi David,

You are very welcome.

Well, the 2.32ct offers a significantly visibly larger stone and is also confirmed eye-clean. 😉

If it were me, I’d choose the larger of the three and I think a lot of ladies would agree with me. It will look stunning in your setting. Let me know if you have any further questions and please let me know what ED says about the light performance info.

Kind Regards,

Liz

Q:

Hi Liz, thanks for following up. Your recommendation was spot on. The diamond is absolutely incredible. I think it was perfect and a great deal too.

I was already planning to send you a picture next week. The ring was just finished and I am going to give it to her this weekend. Wanted to send you a picture of it on her hand.

It looks amazing!

Thanks again!
